Electronic Press Kit
We are a live band with diverse repertoire that incorporates salsa, samba, choro, merengue, bachata, Latin jazz, and more. Depending on the setting, the ensemble may be comprised of: vocalists, flute, guitars, Puerto Rican cuatro, mandolin, bass, vibraphone, timbales, congas, and güiro. We have experience playing classical, popular, and traditional music, and are open to requests.
Our interactive performances and storytelling events involve audience interaction and music-making. Popular programs include a reading of the Cuban folk-tale “Martina the Beautiful Cockroach” with live music accompaniment, and a video presentation of recent trips to Cuba.
Lastly, our music enrichment courses for all ages and youth ensemble classes utilize percussion, guitars, pianos, or a mix. Participants are exposed to new musical styles, choose some of the repertoire they play, and learn important skills like how to play together at different tempos and feels, song arrangement, how to balance with each other in the group, and general musicianship.
We have performed on stage for all types of crowds and have implemented curricular material for organizations such as the Austin ISD, City of Austin Parks & Recreation Department and Economic Development Department, Texas Workforce Commission via the Criss Cole Rehabilitation Center, VSA Arts of Texas, AGE, Meals on Wheels, Creative Action, the Austin Symphony, Apogee, and more.
Our group is comprised of John Bimbiras, Christina Cuellar, Kathelee Hernandez Curbelo, Sevylla del Mazo, Ian Fry, Wilfredo José Burgos Matos, Vijay Meunier, and Luis Rangel.
